An Online Store in Palestine: Where Most Stores Fail

The problem is rarely a shortage of visitors. It is that they reach the cart and leave — and these are the points where they do.

Leakage, not a shortage of visitors

Most new store owners ask how to increase traffic. The better question in most cases is: where am I losing the people who already arrived? A store receiving a thousand visitors and selling to five does not fix that with two thousand visitors — it only doubles the loss.

Track the funnel step by step: who viewed the product, who added to cart, who began checkout, who completed. The largest gap between two adjacent numbers is your problem — and in this market it usually sits between beginning checkout and completing it.

Cash on delivery is not a secondary option

In Palestine a large share of buyers has no card, or will not enter one on a store they do not know. A store that asks for a card alone excludes them before it starts. Cash on delivery here is not a compromise on the standard — it is the standard.

But do the maths: doorstep refusals and return shipping are a real line eating your margin. Treat it with confirmation before dispatch — one WhatsApp message asking “shall we confirm the order?” measurably lowers refusals and costs less than a returned parcel.

Show shipping early, not at the last step

The most common reason for cart abandonment worldwide: a shipping cost appearing suddenly at the final step. The visitor did the sum in their head, met a different number, felt tricked — and left.

Show shipping on the product page itself, or set a clear free-shipping threshold. Early transparency loses a few orders in theory and wins more in practice.

WhatsApp is part of the store, not a substitute for it

Many buyers here want one question answered before buying: will this size fit? when does it arrive? is there another colour? If they find no way to ask, they leave.

Put a visible WhatsApp button on the product page, and make it open a message carrying the product name and link automatically — so they need not explain. And when an order completes in chat, record it in the system as an order, not a message, or half your sales vanish from your reports.

The product page answers before it is asked

  • Real images from several angles, including a context shot showing the product in use rather than isolated on white.
  • Sizes and dimensions as numbers — “medium” is not a size.
  • Delivery time stated plainly, and the return policy in a line, not on a separate page.
  • The most common objection answered in the product description itself. Ask your sales team: which question comes up every day? Put the answer there.

Measurement is a condition, not decoration

Without correct measurement you cannot tell which ad produced which order, so you allocate budget by feel. Configure the store events — product view, add to cart, begin checkout, purchase — and verify they actually arrive before you spend on advertising. Installing the tag is not proof it works.

In short

Build for your market's reality: cash on delivery as a primary option, shipping shown early, WhatsApp present in the path, and a product page that answers before it is asked. Then measure where you lose and fix the biggest drop-off first — not everything at once.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform is best for a store? It depends on product count, payment method and inventory integration needs. A store with ten products does not need a heavy platform; one with hundreds of SKUs and variants needs a structure that carries it. More important than the platform's name: calculate annual running cost, not just build price.
Should I sell on Instagram or open a store?Start where your audience is, but note: selling on Instagram alone means your stock, orders and customer history all live in messages — and you cannot grow on that. A store becomes necessary when order volume passes what you can follow manually, or when you want to know where each order came from.
How long does building a store take?Weeks rather than months when images, descriptions and prices are ready. What delays projects in practice is not development but waiting on product content from the owner — so prepare it before you start.
